A WHITE chedi in Thai-Lao architectural style and resting on an octagonal platform – signifying the much-revered Luang Phor Koon Parisuttho’s simplicity, humility, purity and graciousness – will soon be built as a memorial atop his temporary crematorium at Buddhamonton Isan in Khon Kaen’s Muang district.

The chedi with four arch entrances, standing at a 32-metre height equivalent to a 10-storey building, will rest on a nine-metre-radius octagonal platform surrounded by three pavilions, said Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Architecture dean, Chupong Thongkhamsamut.
The 1,000-square-metre memorial site, located some 500 metres behind the Buddhamonton Isan Chedi, will serve as a space for people to reflect on the late monk’s life and merits. It will require Bt50 million to build, Chupong said.

The construction, which is expected to take one year to complete, will start soon after the late monk’s cremation rite, he said.
Some foundation pillars were erected last October.
