A factory making water taps and valves in Samut Prakan's Phra Pradaeng district was damaged in a fire early on Wednesday.

The Phra Pradaeng police station was alerted of the fire at 5.30am and informed the Lad Luang Municipality, which dispatched 10 fire engines to the Asahi Valve factory on Soi Suksawat 78 in Tambon Bang Chak.

The fire started on the second floor of the factory building and firefighters took about half an hour to control the blaze.

A security guard, Somboon Naononethong, 56, said he was manning a booth at the gate of the factory when he was alerted by a passing motorcyclist that smoke was billowing from the factory building.

Somboon then alerted other security guards to try to put out the fire, but it escalated and spread quickly so he called police.

Police have yet to identify the cause of the fire.
