Autistic boy, 5, drowns in Prachuap Khiri Khan irrigation canal

The body of a five-year-old boy with autism, who was missing since Sunday evening and was suspected to have drowned, was retrieved from an an irrigation canal in Prachuap Khiri Khan province early on Monday.

The family of the boy had called Pran Buri Police Station at 12.30am to inform police that the boy had been missing since Sunday evening and he was believed to have drowned in the irrigation canal in Ban Wang Won villlage in Tambon Nong Ta Taem, Pran Buri district .
The police station coordinated with a local foundation to send rescuers. The local office of the Royal Irrigation Department stopped the flow of water into the canal's section to enable the search.
Rescuers found the boy's body about two hours later.
Chai Phetpradub, the aunt of the boy, said she and her husband were cooking dinner when the boy went outside to play and did not return.
Chai said she had sought the help of local villagers to search for him but when their efforts failed, she sought the help of police.
