The four-year-old male dolphin, about two metres long and weighing about 70 kilograms, was found stranded on the beach and exhausted in Tambon Ao Nang, Muang district.
Officials from the Haad Nopparat Thara-Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park, along with employees from the beach resorts, took turns holding the dolphin in the sea until staff from the Andaman Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Centre came to take it for rehabilitation at the Centre.

Saen Sringam, the Krabi chief fishery officer, said Risso’s dolphins normally live in the deep sea and so the rescued one could have become ill and lost contact with its pod before being washed ashore.
Saen said officials would take care of it until it regained strength and is released.
