Girl, 5, perishes in Ubon Ratchathni house fire

A five-year-old girl perished in a fire that engulfed a wooden house in Ubon Ratchathani's Pibul Mungsahan district early Monday. She had been left in the care of her 10-year-old sister, police said.

The two girls were left at home when their mother went to practice dharma at the temple and their aunt was selling goods at a local market.
The Pibul Mungsahan police station was alerted of the fire in Ban Thung Na Paeng village in Tambon Phosi at 1.40am.
Fire fighters took about half an hour to put out the blaze after which they found the body of Nichapha Makdee, 5, on the second floor of the two-storey house.
Their aunt, Onchan Makdee, 58, told police her sister had the two girls with her when she went to temple to practice dharma and meditation. Onchan said she left the two girls early in the morning as she had to sell goods at a market.
Police said the two girls slept upstairs and the fire broke out on the ground floor. The elder sister woke up and ran out of the house.
Police have yet to investigate the cause of the fire.
