Boy, 7, receives 15 stitches after monkey attack at Prachuap Khiri Khan fair
A seven-year-old boy was severely injured when he was bitten by one of three pig-tailed macaques that were being used to prevent long-tailed macaques from looting shops at the fair in Prachuap Khiri Khan's Muang district.
The boy was bitten on Friday night and was taken to Prachuap Khiri Khan where he received four stitches on his back, two stitches at his side, three stitches at his left elbow, and six more stitches at his ear lobe.
His father, Apiwit Thongkhao, 37, said he was selling goods at the annual Red Cross fair while his two sons were playing with three other friends.
Apiwit said the owner of the pig-tailed macaques did not properly guard his monkeys from people and did not put up a warning sign. He simply used a rope to mark the trees where the monkeys were tied so kids could get near to the trees easily.
Ekdanai Chuaythip, 26, the owner of the three monkeys, said he was sorry that one of his monkeys bit the boy.
He said he was paid Bt2,500 a night to tie his three monkeys at three locations at the fair to scare away long-tailed macaques from Chong Krasjok Mount so that they would not come to the fair and loot shops.
Ekdanai said he had to take turns to check the three locations so he was not around when one of monkeys bit the boy.
