Deaf-mute Thai man commits suicide on Facebook Live

Deaf-mute Thai man commits suicide on Facebook Live

Police and relatives rushed to a house in Chon Buri’s Sri Racha district early Tuesday morning, in an unsuccessful attempt to save the life of a young deaf-mute man who broadcast his own hanging via Facebook Live.

Friends alerted relatives of Natthapong Samarnmit, 23, at 3am and the relatives then called police before rushing to his house in Tambon Surasak, but by the time they arrived the man had already died.
Natthapong broadcast the process of his death for several minutes.
He was seen tying a rope over a house beam and then climbing on to a chair to hang himself.
The whole dramatic and disturbing event took about five minutes.
Thawat Srikomain, 67, grandfather of the deceased, said he had been woken up by shouts in front of his house that Natthapong was hanging himself, so he and other relatives rushed to his grandson’s home and broke open the door, only to find that he had died.
Thawat said Natthapong had recently appeared sad that he could not communicate properly with his girlfriend due to his deaf-mute condition.
The body was sent for autopsy to Laem Chabang Hospital.
