Train delayed, passengers evacuated after Hat Yai derailment

Bangkok-bound passengers were delayed two hours in their journey on Monday evening, after a train derailed at the Hat Yai railway station.

The 12th carriage came off the rails of a train from Padang Besar, Malaysia as it approached Hat Yai railway station, where it was to connect with the Sungai Kolok-Bangkok train.

Some 40 passengers sitting in the derailed carriage were evacuated and placed on two buses to Bangkok after the 6.10pm accident.

Officials took about two hours to salvage the damaged derailed carriage and separate it from the train. The Sungai Kolok-Bangkok train then resumed its journey to the capital.

No one was injured.
