Nurse, boyfriend arrested for drug trafficking; further search found more drugs hospital ICU locker

Police found 8,000 methamphetamine pills and 1kg of marijuana when they searched a nurse's locker at Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital's Intensive Care Unit on Friday.

ICU ward nurse Doungakon Pisutsiang, 30, and her boyfriend were arrested on drug-trafficking charges on Thursday. After a tip-off, police on Thursday went to search the nurse's flat and caught her removing two bags containing drugs. The search at her second floor apartment room yielded 21,500 methamphetamine pills, one kilogram of "ice" crystal meth, and 13 kilograms of marijuana. Another police team searched Doungakon's house on Suk Somboon Road and found another 6,000 methamphetamine pills and 500 grams of "ice". Doungakon's boyfriend, Ekkarat Saeng-arthit-uthai, 37, who was in the house, was arrested. Police also seized the couple's assets worth Bt10 million including a brand-new Toyota pickup truck, a large amount of gold ornaments, five cell phones and multiple bank books. Police said the couple confessed to drug trafficking and got supplies from a Northern drug ring. They stored the drugs at the nurse's flat and hospital which they considered to be safe from police detection. Police said Ekkarat had been arrested in 2007 for drug trafficking and repeated the offence again in 2012. He was sentenced to a jail term and released last year. Doungakon had been questioned on suspicion of drug-trafficking in 2015 but police let her go as they had no solid evidence against her at that time.
