Myanmar fishing boat worker drowns in Samut Sakhon

A migrant worker from Myanmar was found drowned in a river in Samut Sakhon’s Muang district with a mortar tied to his neck in what is believed to be a suicide, police said.

The Tha Chalom Police Station was alerted of the death at 11am and rushed to the pier opposite the Bang Ya Praek Temple in Tambon Bang Ya Praek.
The man was identified as 25-year-old Aw. A stone mortar was found tied to the man’s neck with a nylon rope. Police found no injuries on the body.
Employer Sombat Chuenjai, 47, said Aw had joined work just six days ago and appeared to be healthy and happy. He was last seen having breakfast and fixing fishing nets before other workers saw him jump into the river.
