More than 250 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine were confiscated after being smuggled across the Mekong River to Thailand’s Mukdahan province, police said on Friday.

After receiving a tip-off that a massive illicit narcotic was to be smuggled across the river from Laos to Thailand to land at Tambon Ban Bang Sai Noi in Mukdahan province by a boat, the Navy’s Mekong Riverine Unit together with officials from the provincial Internal Security Operation Command were dispatched to take them down.

The forces arrived too late, as the suspected drug traffickers had already left the scene, leaving behind 13 sacks of crystal meth estimated to be worth more than Bt370 million.
