Muslim teacher shot dead by insurgents in Pattani

A female Muslim teacher was killed in a drive-by shooting by insurgents while she was riding a motorcycle with her ranger husband in Pattani’s Yarang district on Friday night, police said.

Asma Abdullareem, 42, a kindergarten teacher at the child care centre in Ban Sala Song in Tambon Sadawa, was killed on a rural road in Moo 3 village in Tambon Sanor at about 9pm.
Her husband, Ashaman Abdullareem who is a Pattani-based ranger, was slightly injured.
The ranger told police that he was riding with his wife to visit a relative when a motorcycle caught up with them from behind and the pillion rider opened fire on them.
Ashaman said a bullet hit his wife in the neck and his motorcycle fell over. He said he returned fire but he missed the insurgents.
After he got help from local villagers, his wife was taken to a nearby hospital where she died of extensive bleeding.
Police believe the insurgents were aiming at the ranger but missed and hit his wife instead.
