Jilted Cambodian rescued from suicide bid in Pathum Thani

Police arrived just in time to save a Cambodian man who was trying to commit suicide in Pathum Thani’s Lam Lukka district on Monday night.

After being alerted at 9pm that a man was threatening to jump off a pedestrian bridge on to busy Phahol Yothin Road, police from the Don Muang station rushed to the scene, which is located at a spot linking Bangkok’s Don Muang district and Lam Lukka.
The Cambodian man, later identified as Jia Shinjia, 25, was standing on a ledge above the Bangkok-bound side of the road.
Police and rescuers talked to the man for about half an hour in an attempt to convince him not to jump. A policeman finally managed to grab his neck and pull him to safety.
At Don Muang police station, Jia told police he was distressed after his girlfriend had left him for another man. Police released him with a warning.
