Father demands answers from Korat medical units  after death of young son from dengue disease

A father on Tuesday demanded that two local medical service units in Nakhon Ratchasima explain their actions and take responsibility for the recent death of his son from dengue disease.

Meaun Thongkhuntod, 53, said he had taken his ailing 12-year-old son Siwat “Por” Thonkhuntod to Nong Nam Sai Health Promotion Centre twice since May 25, but Siwat had only received medicine on both occasions.
After his condition worsened, he then took Siwat to a clinic in the province’s Sikhio district and was told that he might have contracted the dengue virus and needed to be sent to Sikhio Hospital for tests, Meaun explained.
However, the family had to wait for the test results at home until May 30.
Testing positive for dengue, Siwat was admitted to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, where he passed away on June 1, the father said.
Kriangsak Mungtoklang, a director of Nong Nam Sai Health Promotion Centre, said his medical facility had no diagnostic equipment for dengue, and had advised Meaun that his son should be monitored for a few days before being re-examined.
Despite the advice, the family had taken Siwat to a clinic instead, Kriangsak said.
Meaun is now demanding that both Nong Nam Sai Health Promotion Centre and Sikhio Hospital explain their actions and take responsibility for the death of his son.
