MP's vote abstention surprises Bhumjaithai party leader

Bhumjaithai party leader, Anutin Charnvirakul said on Thursday that he was surprised one of his MPs abstained from the vote in a Parliament for the new Prime Minister.

Srisaket MP, Siripong Angkasakulkiat abstained from voting for General Prayut Chan-o-cha as the Prime Minister late on Wednesday.
Anutin said Siripong had already apologised to him for voting against the party’s guideline.
Anutin said that he did not count Siripong's action as a disagreement as MPs are entitled to vote however they want.
“We have to respect each other and it was hard to make 50 people think alike,” said Anutin.
He admitted that he thought that the vote might have been a split-second decision and suggested that Siripong may have been afraid of answering local residents’ questions.
However, it did not affect negotiations with Phalang Pracharat, the leading party in the coalition to form the government, he said.
Prayut got 500 votes from the 750 combined houses in the parliament to re-install the general after the March election.
