Prachuap Khiri Khan burns 940kg of drugs to mark drug abuse day

The Prachuap Khiri Khan administration on Wednesday set fire to 940kg of marijuana and kratom leaves to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and illicit Trafficking.

The ceremony was held at the Koh Lak Temple in Muang district and it was presided over by Prachuap Khiri Khan governor Pallop Singhasen.
The ceremony was participated by Prachuap Khiri Khan police chief Maj Gen Surasak Suksawaeng, senior government officials, private firms and students.
Participants also took an oath not to abuse or get involved in drug trafficking.
The destroyed drugs came from 145 marijuana seizures and 578 kratom cases. The drugs were put inside a coffin and incinerated in the temple crematorium.
The governor said in a speech that from October last year the authorities have arrested 2,045 drug suspects in 1,893 cases and seized 536,000 meth pills, 2.6kg of crystal meth, 24.6kg of marijuana and 926.6kg of kratom leaves.
