The Thai authorities repatriated 94 Myanmar refugees from a refugee camp in Tak’s Tha Song Yang district back to Myanmar on Wednesday.

The authorities at the Ban Mae La refugee camp in Tha Song Yang sent 25 Myanmar men, 34 women, 18 boys and 17 girls.

The repatriation was presided over by Tha Song Yang district chief Prateep Phothiam.

The district chief said the refugees had fled conflict in Myanmar and lived in Thailand for 30 years.

He added Thailand and Myanmar had reached an agreement to repatriate the refugees and four repatriations had already been carried out.

On Wednesday, the Thai authorities transported the refugees in vans to the immigration office in Muang district and following completion of the immigration process, drove them to the border checkpoint at the First Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in Mae Sot district from where they crossed into Myanmar’s Myawaddy province.
