Phetchabun governor sets up panel to deal with Khao Kho forest encroachment

The Phetchabun governor has set up a panel to investigate all resorts and hotels suspected of encroaching on forest land in the booming tourist destination of Khao Kho in Phetchabun province.

Phetchabun Governor Suebsak Iamwicharn said he recently invoked order No 6/2562 of the chief of the National Council for Peace and Order to set up the panel to investigate resorts and hotels in mountainous Khao Kho. The panel will check whether they have been built on forest land or not.
He said they will be classified into three groups – those constructed before June 30, 1998, those built between 1998 and 2014 and those erected after 2014.
Suebsak said the panel, which includes academics, will come up with the best solutions for resorts and hotels found encroaching on forest and public land by studying a model for charging owners rental fees.
