Sea turtle missing forelegs rescued on Krabi

Sea turtle missing forelegs rescued on Krabi

An olive ridley sea turtle whose forelegs had both been chopped off was plucked from a Krabi beach on Sunday and is being nursed back to health.

One leg wound had already healed, but the other was open and infected. Officials had no immediate guess as to the cause of the double amputation.
The turtle, about 70 centimetres long and 20 kilograms in weight, was found stranded on Haad Phra Ae Beach in the village of Moo 2 in Koh Lanta district.
Officials from a nearby crab conservation centre moved the turtle there, giving it its own rehabilitation pond that they filled with seawater to a depth of 10cm and stocked with seagrass as food.
Officials from the Phuket Marine Biological Centre on Monday took the turtle there so its wound could be treated.
