Cambodian worker drowns in Rayong boat accident

A speedboat hit a small boat off Ban Pe pier in Rayong’s Muang district late Wednesday night, causing the death of a Cambodian worker, police said.

Pol Major Sakol Khamyingyon, an inspector with Ban Pe police station, said the accident happened at midnight about 500 metres from the Ban Pe pier.

Scuba divers from the Sawang Phon Kusol Foundation took about half an hour to locate and retrieve the body of Piapor, 34, from the sea bed.

The two-engine speedboat was returning to the pier when it slammed into the middle section of the small boat, breaking it into two.

The speedboat driver and his worker managed to save two men from the small boat but the Cambodian worker drowned. The speedboat driver told police that he did not see the small boat because it had just one lamp lighting it from the front.
