Johor Bomba manages to put out forest fire near Legoland Malaysia, hotel

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The state Fire and Rescue Department has managed to put out the forest fire at Persiaran Medini and stop it from spreading to the nearby Ramada Hotel and Legoland Malaysia.

Operation commander Ahmad Nazran Omar said the department received a call about the incident at about 4.25pm on Friday (Aug 23) and managed to put out the fire at 3.15am on Saturday (Aug 24).

"A total of 15 fire and rescue personnel and one fire engine were deployed to the scene to put out the fire.

"A total of 16 acres of forest was destroyed and we are still investigating the source of the fire," he said in a statement here.

He said the department had also received aid from Medini and Legoland Emergency Response Team.

The department also noticed an increase in forest fire incidents in the state this year as compared to 2018, he added.

"As of Aug 24,2019, we have recorded 4,680 forest fire incidents involving 265,287 acres of forest, an increase compared to last year of only 3,147 cases and 115,341 acres of forest.

"The increase is believed to have been caused by the hot and dry season from February until March 2019 and from August to September 2019," he added.
