Truck driver arrested for faking theft story, stealing 186 crates of beer

Buri Ram police Wednesday arrested a truck driver for allegedly filing a false complaint that 186 boxes containing 12 beer each had been stolen from his truck while he was sleeping by the roads. An investigation revealed that he stole the beer himself.

Investigators with the Lam Paimas police station arrested Udon Sudkaew, 53, hours after he filed a complaint that 186 crates of beer had been stolen from his truck.
Udon was transporting 2,520 boxes of 12 beer bottles each from a well-known beer factory in Khon Kaen to Sa Kaew. When he reached Ban Srakhoon village in Tambon Khoklam of Buri Ram’s Lam Plaimas district, he called the district police station and reported that 186 boxes had been stolen while he was parked on the side of the road and sleeping. He claimed thieves cut the canvas covering the back of the truck and stole the beer.
Police checked the GPS installed on the truck and noticed that he stopped in front of a store in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Chum Puang district, which was not on his normal route.
Under pressure during interrogation, the truck driver admitted he sold the beer to the shop at the price of Bt500 each crate, lower than the market price of Bt600.
The driver said he was in debt and another beer truck driver had given him the idea of how to get quick cash.
