NBTC aims for single fee rate for telephone and mobile phone numbers

A meeting by the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on Friday resolved to review and determine the fee rate of fixed-line telephone and mobile phone numbers as a single rate, secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said.

The fee rate for telephones was determined to be Bt1/number/month, while that for mobile phones Bt1.62/number/month.
“These rates were the highest average of each proposed options, which were considered at the meeting,” Takorn said.
In addition, there will be a transitional provision for enforcing the mobile phone fee rate of Bt1/number/month for two years from the date the provision comes into force, for mobile phone operators which hold no more than five million numbers.
“For new mobile phone numbers requested after that, the fee rate will be Bt1.62/number/month,” the secretary-general said.
The rate will be included in the (draft) announcement of the NBTC regarding the criteria of allocation and administration of telecommunications numbers together with the approval of the draft, before a public hearing is held.
