Heavy downpours and high waves forecast for Southern Thailand

Heavy downpours and high waves forecast for Southern Thailand

Heavy rain and torrential downpours will hit the south of the country this weekend, the Thailand Meteorological Department warned on Friday (October 19).

The department attributed the weather conditions to the stronger northeast monsoon across the Gulf and the South and warned residents to expect severe conditions that could lead to flash flooding and water runoff. Moderate winds will whip up waves to up to two metres in the lower Gulf, with wave height likely to be over two metres during storms. All ships should proceed with caution and keep away from stormy weather.
For other parts of the country, the department forecasts cool mornings and strong winds in the North and Northeast with slight falls in temperature due to a moderate high-pressure system covering the North, the Northeast, the Central region and the South China Sea.
Variable weather conditions will prevail in the North, the Northeast, the East, the Central area including Bangkok and its vicinity from October 18 to 22. People in the South, meanwhile, should beware of isolated heavy rain and all ships should proceed with caution and keep away from storms throughout the period.
