International cannabis conference in Bangkok aims to raise awareness of potential

Thailand will host its first annual international cannabis conference and expo, aiming to attract more than 1,000 attendees.

The event, “Elevating Cannabis Expo 2019: Asia’s Green Rush” is being organised by Elevated Estate along with its domestic and foreign partners on November 18 at Movenpick BDMS Wellness Resort Bangkok.
Guests can expect to receive a comprehensive understanding of the current cannabis industry in Thailand, learn from international experts and leaders on how to grow the local, budding sector to a global level.
Chokwan “Kitty” Chopaka, the founder and CEO of Elevated Estate, said, “After the Narcotics Act BE 2562 legalised the use of cannabis for research and medical purposes, Thailand is in a unique position to lead the region for business opportunities.”
These changes in the law represent a significant shift in Thai society’s acceptance for and a move towards a global standing for a previously illegal substance. It is now a real possibility for cannabis to become an essential economic crop of Thailand, driving economic growth while also benefiting the people in terms of research, medicine and recreation.
The Thai cannabis market is forecast to be worth US$$661 million (Bt20 billion) in 2024.
Elevated Estate also partnered with Expara Thailand, to raise a “Cannabis Tech Fund”, Southeast Asia’s first venture fund, to nurture entrepreneurs, promote sound investment in technology and innovation for the cannabis industry in Thailand and abroad, currently raising $30 million.
The firm has collaborated with over 50 local and international organisations to organise “Elevating Cannabis Expo 2019: Asia’s Green Rush” to be the most significant annual international event for Thailand’s cannabis industry.
There also will be panel discussions and talks on the main stage and the vertical stage by more than 25 local and international industry experts on more than 18 topics.
Speakers will include Pipop Chamnivikaipong, former deputy secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board and senior adviser of Betimes Solutions; Chris Potranandana, lawyer and partner of Strathmore Law Ltd; Gloria Lai, regional director Asia of the International Drug Policy Consortium; Kajkanit Sakdisubha, founder and director of Taratera Corporation Co Ltd; Michael Feldman, representative from Expara Cannabis Tech Fund; Narubest Sangsawad, head adviser of Cannabis Cultivation Development Project by Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital Foundation; Mahmoud Hanachi, head of Genetics and New Territories at Dutch Passion Seed Company; and Prof Dr Siriwat Wongsiri, Scientific Fellow of the Royal Society of Thailand.
The first cannabis startup pitching competition will be held and the Thai-English biannual report on the local, regional and international cannabis market and industry trends, “Elevated Estate Cannabis Report: Introducing Thailand”, will be launched.
