Thai digital vision in right direction, says Huawei exec

A senior Huawei executive has lauded the digital improvements taking place in Thailand, including the development of smart cities.

Edwin Diender, president of digital transformation and vice president for public and private business, Huawei Enterprise Business Group, said the government’s policy is in the right direction, and the rest was about how to create a value chain.
The developments under Thailand 4.0’s policy has led to adoption of technology in accordance with the vision, Diender said, adding, “The next step is to announce a clear set of directions and position the country while improving relationship with neighbouring countries to create a network of smart city cooperation so as to fully become a ‘Smart Nation’.”
Smart City is a core and a platform that would allow for further expansion, to develop a variety of services that meet the demands of the people, Diender said. The things to consider are the agenda of the target country, as well as the challenge of further development because Thailand’s assessment is good.
"I have seen that the Thai government has progressed well. The next important thing is to drive various programmes to achieve the strategy, to manage planned investment budgets while prioritising what work needs to be done.”
Huawei has planned a clear strategy on international, regional and local markets. The role is to support digital infrastructure throughout the development process. Meanwhile, there are investments and continuous work with local partners, which are an important step in the transition from 4G to 5G, Diender said.

He said the challenge is the method to make the systems of each organisation, which are separated into silos, to connect with each other and work as a single system. This is a challenge that every country must face.
In the investment budget limitations, there are many models that can help solve problems such as joint investment that the customers can come to consult and adjust to match the problem or the value that needs to be created. Another different point of choosing Huawei products is being able to find a price that is worth the investment.
Different countries have different needs. Huawei has developed a solution that is capable of world-class standards. It is an important open-system that can connect to the existing system, Diender said.
IDC revealed that global digital transformation investments will exceed more than US$2 trillion, with on average growth from 2015 to 2020 of 17.9 per cent.
Today, digital transfer has become a mega-trend in every industry. ICT technology will play an important role that increases access to communication, economic development and job creation. The success in the digital age may not use the same methods, must have conceptual adjustment to do something new to get new results, IDC said.
