Linked science parks to produce labour for EEC

Linked science parks to produce labour for EEC

Changes are in store for two of the country’s science parks, linking them together and to the government’s ambitious plans to establish a tech-savvy “Thailand 4.0”.

Tippawan Vejchakaran of the Office of Science and Technology said this week that plans are underway to connect the science parks in the North and East so they can better produce skilled manpower for the Eastern Economic Corridor.
Tippawan said the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECI) would make the Chiang Mai area an important economic centre in the North and the regional park would support the development of products and the adding of greater value to existing products through science, research, technology and innovation.
Two projects mentioned were a Health Innovation Service Area and a Food Innovation City.

Assistant Professor Thanyanupap Ananthana, director of the Science and Technology Park at Chiang Mai University, said it was ready to provide a full range of research and creative services to help small and medium-sized businesses and startups become more competitive.
It will next year assist business entrepreneurs hoping to expand into the industrial sector and produce innovative food products by prototype factory.
It also has the NSP Inno Store open during normal business hours where entrepreneurs can test their products in a realistic retail setting and try different marketing strategies.
