Cabinet approves Bt3.4 billion to continue Pracharath school project in deep south

The cabinet on Tuesday (November 26) approved an extension to the Pracharath school project in the southern region in the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla.

The scheme was started in 2017 by thePrime Minister who ordered the upgrade of both primary and secondary schools in one district of each of the provinces into a boarding school. The programme is aimed at poor students, orphans, students without sponsors as well as those affected by the unrest in the southern region to receive basic education and reduce inequality as well as improve quality of life.
The project has been implemented since 2018. There are 64 schools in the project with 5,049 students and the number is expected to increase. The Basic Education Commission has requested a budget from the Cabinet of Bt3.416 billion, Bt132.81 million of which will used for teachers’ salaries and the purchase of teaching and learning materials. Bt1.031 billion will be set aside for construction of dormitories and goods while the remaining Bt2.252 billion is to subsidise 3 meals and additional expenses for the students
