AIS joins in drive to rid single-use plastics

AIS joins in drive to rid single-use plastics

Advanced Info Service (AIS) will stop handing out single-use plastic bags at AIS shops and Serenade Club nationwide from January 1, 2020, according to its announcement on Monday (December 30).

If a customer asked for a plastic bag, he/she will be given a biodegradable plastic bag which will decompose within 180 days after being buried underground.
The move reflects a collective drive of the public and private sectors to reduce the use of single-use plastic items in Thailand.
Recently, Thai Retailers Association decided to introduce a campaign titled “Every Day Say No to Plastic Bags”, under which all its 75 members will stop providing such bags at 24,500 distribution channels, starting from January 1.
In October, AIS launched its “Mission Green 2020” environment protection campaign to encourage people to drop off their electronic waste at AIS shops or its participating partners.
The campaign aims to cut one million units of carbon dioxide equivalent and eliminate at least 100,000 pieces of electronic waste by 2020.
