Amid drought fears, Phimai dam stops water supply for agriculture

The Phimai Dam has stopped distributing water for agriculture as its capacity has fallen to just 30 per cent of capacity, which is reserved for use in case of a future drought. The current drought situation has raised concerns among the authorities.

On Wednesday (January 1), the local Royal Irrigation Department in Nakhon Ratchasima province closed six watergates on the east side and two on the south sides of Phimai dam after it was found that inadequate rains had left the dam with depleting stocks of water. The Phimai dam now has less water compared to the same period in previous years.
