SET retreats from 1,600 last week

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) closed down at 1,589.11 on Monday (January 20), losing 1.37 points (0.71 per cent) from last Friday's, with a trade volume of Bt57.94 billion.

The SET index moved between 1,598.70 and 1,586.73 during the day.
A stock analyst attributed the drop to the worse-than-expected performance of Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) in the fourth quarter of 2019. 
“SCB's net profit fell to Bt5.50 billion in the period, down 63 per cent quarter on quarter and far worse than the market expectation of 41 per cent,” the stock analyst said.
This week, Kasikorn Securities (KSecurities) expects support level at 1,590 and 1,580 points, resistance at 1,610 and 1,620 points.
Japan’s Nikkei Index closed at 24,083.51, up 42.25 points, or 0.18 per cent.
China’s Shanghai SE Composite Index closed at 3,095.79, up 20.29 points, or 0.66 per cent.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closed at 28,795.91, down 260.51 points, or 0.90 per cent.
South Korea’s KOSPI Index closed at 2,262.64, up 12.07 points or 0.54 per cent.
Taiwan’s TAIEX Index closed at 12,118.71, up 28.42 points, or 0.24 per cent.
