Phu Kradueng National Park blaze extinguished

Officials have controlled the fire that gripped Phu Kradueng National Park since the morning of February 15, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation spokesman Sompoch Maneerat said on Monday (February 17).

“According to the official report, the damage was spread over 2,000 rai because of the dry national park area,” he said. “Officials are still monitoring the park as they are afraid a fire will occur again.”
A preliminary investigation found that the fire was caused by humans, since natural factors including “wood friction” was not found. “However, officials need to inspect the damaged area thoroughly to reach a conclusion,” he said.
Sompoch said the department’s director-general, Thanya Netithammakul, has enjoined officials to use fire-prevention measures in high risk areas nationwide, especially those in the northern and northeastern regions. He also asked tourists not to light up any cigarettes or carry lighters when visiting those national parks.
