Thais urged to avoid travel to Kazakhstan due to quarantine rules

Thai people have been urged to temporarily avoid travel to Kazakhstan because of the country's new rules on quarantine for countries hit by the new coronavirus.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Astana on Thursday (February 20) issued a statement urging Thai people to temporarily refrain from travelling to Kazakhstan as the local government had announced new rules on quarantine for people from countries and territories reporting outbreak of the new coronavirus or Covid-19, as follows:
● Persons travelling from China will be quarantined at facilities specified by the government for 14 days. After this period they will remain under telephone monitoring of a medical institute near their residence for 10 days.
● People travelling from countries with more than 10 cases of Covid-19 infections, namely Singapore, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia, Germany, the United States and France will be in quarantine in their residence for 14 days, during which medical staff will make daily visits to check their condition. After this period they will remain under telephone monitoring of a medical institute near their residence for 10 days.
● People travelling from countries with less than 10 cases of Covid-19 infections, such as the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Canada, India, the Philippines, Italy, Spain, Finland, Nepal, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Belgium and Egypt will have to remain under telephone monitoring of a medical institute near their residence for 24 days.
The embassy added that the list of countries may change depending on the outbreak situation in the said countries. If a person intends to stay in Kazakhstan for shorter period than the quarantine period of their respective country, they will be under quarantine for the whole time they stay in Kazakhstan. As for government officials from countries in the three groups, including ambassadors, airline pilots and flight crews, they will have to remain under telephone monitoring of a medical institute near their residence for 24 days starting from the day they arrive in Kazakhstan.
The Thai embassy said it therefore advises Thais against travelling to Kazakhstan at the moment unless it is for a necessary cause.
