<p>Officials of the Phuket Public Health Office, Royal Thai Navy Region 3 and Patong Hospital handled the screening in a joint operation, using thermo-infrared scanners.<br />
The Costa Fortuna, carrying mainly Italian and Spanish passengers, arrived from Malaysia’s Langkawi Island as per schedule and will continue on to Singapore on Saturday.</p>

Officials reported that no signs of contagion had been found by early afternoon. Few passengers wore protective facemasks, which officials took to mean they were confident that Phuket was safe.<br />
Once screened, passengers disembarked to visit the attractions on Phuket and nearby Phang Nga on tour packages purchased in advance.</p>

Cruise ship Costa Fortuna gets thorough screening in Phuket

Some 2,150 passengers and 988 crewmembers of the Italian cruise ship Costa Fortuna were being screened for Covid-19 infection on Friday (February 21) as the vessel clung to a temporary pontoon dock off Phuket’s Patong Beach.
