Mahidol University staffer cleared of Covid-19 infection

A Mahidol University staffer who showed symptoms of being infected by Covid-19 has tested negative, the university said on Wednesday (February 26) evening.

The university staffer was under scrutiny after coming down with fever within 14 days of returning from a country that has a high infection rate.
In a statement, Prof Banjong Mahaisawiriya, acting president of the university, said: “The university sent the person to receive standard testing at Ministry of Public Health immediately after we were alerted of the symptoms,” he said. “The test came back negative. There is no genetic material of the new coronavirus in the patient’s body.”
The university had said earlier on Tuesday that it had called in other staff who had made contact with the patient and tested them thoroughly. They had also urged university staff and students who have no direct relationship with the person to take care of their health and follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Public Health and Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation to protect themselves against the coronavirus.
