Commart fair to be held on schedule from March 5-8

The annual ‘Commart’ IT fair will be held on schedule from March 5-8 at Bitec Bangna in Bangkok, shrugging off fears of the new coronavirus, or Covid-19, outbreak.

Pornchai Chantharasupphasaeng, director of IT and digital business at ARIP Pcl, the fair organiser, said on Wednesday (March 4) that preparations for the “Commart X Pro 2020” have gone smoothly. “Although some of the major partners like Advice IT Infinite and Banana IT will not join this fair, we still have the regulars such as JIB, IT City, SPVI and many other retailers of computer and IT-related products.”
As for the measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, Pornchai said they are limiting the number of entry and exit points to the fair and will deploy thermal scanners at all gates. “Those who have fever will not be allowed to enter the venue, while those who pass the screening process will be provided with a sticker to display to staff in the fair,” he said. “We also urge everyone to wear a face mask when attending the event.”
In addition, venue managers Bitec will provide medical staff during the fair and increase cleaning frequency in areas and surfaces frequently touched by the public throughout the four-day Commart.
“In the past, each Commart fair used to generate sales of Bt2.8 billion to Bt3 billion with more than 800,000 people visiting,” said Pornchai. “However, this year we might see a decline in sales and visitors due to the virus situation and the absence of two major partners. We, therefore, have not set the target yet and will instead make an estimation based on the day-by-day situation.”
