SET rises slightly following Fed’s emergency rate cut

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index closed at 1,378.61 on Wednesday (March 4) for an increase of 3.59 points and 0.26 per cent over Tuesday.

Daily trade volume was Bt58.586 billion, with an index high of 1,380.82 and a low of 1,358.24.
A stock analyst at Krungsri Securities said the index was likely to move between 1,360 and 1,385 points, although the US Federal Reserve had cut the US interest rate by half a percentage point, to 1 per cent, to offset the effects of Covid-19 outbreak.
“Investors remain under pressure following the worldwide spread of Covid-19, which is currently having an impact on the US economy,” the analyst said.
The top ten stocks with the highest trading value today were BAM, CPALL, PTT, AOT, PTTEP, ADVANC, CRC, GULF, KBANK and BGRIM.

Japan’s Nikkei Index closed at 21,100.06, up 17.33 points or 0.082 per cent.
China’s Shanghai SE Composite Index closed at 3,011.67, up 18.77 0.63 per cent.
The Shenzhen SE Component Index closed at 11,493.02, up 8.81 or 0.077 per cent.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closed at 26,222.07, down 62.75 or 0.24 per cent.
South Korea’s KOSPI Index closed at 2,059.33, up 45.18 or 2.24 per cent.
Taiwan’s TAIEX Index closed at 11,392.35, up 64.63 or 0.57 per cent.
