Fires still detected in Mae Hong Son forests amid governor’s warning

The Forest Fire and Smog Centre in Mae Hong Son found 43 heat points detected by a satellite’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer today (March 10), signifying burning forests in the province.

The heat points reached 100 under the satellite’s Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite, with most occurring in Mueang district.
Meanwhile, the Pollution Control Department found the PM2.5 level in Mueang’s Chong Kham sub-district was 119 micrograms per cubic meter. The PM10 level was 135 micrograms.
“These pollution levels are affecting people’s health,” the department said.
Mae Hong Son Governor Suwaphong Kitiphatphibun said the province would prohibit the setting of any fires from March 15 to April 30.
“People must inform officials if they see anyone burning forests for agricultural purposes during this period,” he said.
