Criteria set for refund by tour agencies to would-be tourists

The government gazette announced on Monday the criteria for refunding would-be visitors to Thailand who had to cancel their trips due to the Covid-19 outbreak and subsequent travel restrictions.

The following standards come into effect today (March 11).

1. If the tourist cancelled the trip not less than 30 days before the scheduled date, a full refund from the tourism business operator is mandatory.
2. If the tourist cancelled the trip not less than 15 days before the scheduled date, the tourism business operator must refund 50-per cent of the payment.
3. If the tourist cancelled the trip less than 15 days before the scheduled date, the tourism business operator will not be held responsible for a refund.

If a tour is cancelled by the operator due to unforeseen circumstance, a full refund is required to those have paid for the trip.
In the event of the tour operator having paid for the arrangement, the amount shall be deducted from the service fee to be paid. In this regard, the operator must present

evidence to its clients as follows: 1 visa application fee, 2 deposit for plane tickets, 3 other necessary expenses.

Those who didn’t receive a refund or less than the stipulated amount under the announced criteria, should contact the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
