Thoracic Society gives ‘medical warriors’ a pep talk

The Thoracic Society of Thailand, which enjoys royal patronage, has urged the “medical warriors” battling the Covid-19 virus to do more to locate people showing severe symptoms in order to stave off the third stage of contagion, marked by mass infections.

“We have pushed for preparation for the third phase through the management of the agencies with direct responsibility on this issue,” the society said on Facebook on Friday (March 13).
“We have received a response from those agencies, but it has not been enough to deal with the virus situation.”
It said private and state hospitals must find and begin treating Covid-19 victims with severe symptoms to reduce the loss of life in the anticipated (but not inevitable) third stage.
Anyone with chronic medical conditions that could worsen severely if they became infected with the virus warrants careful attention, the society said.
“To cut the scourge cycle and reduce loss, the hospitals must have high-quality labs as well as medicines, equipment and preventative tools,” it said.

“We will not yield to executives with no expertise. We need to prepare ourselves for this war with no effective weapons and skilful commanders.”
