Judges to be allowed to wear face masks

The Judicial Commission has approved a request by lower court judges to wear medical masks while presiding over cases to keep themselves from contracting Covid-19 that could possibly be spread by people in the courtroom, Supreme Court President Salaiket Wattanapan said on Monday (March 16).

“The court of first instance includes inmates, witnesses and persons attending the trial. They can be returnees and foreigners from high-risk countries,” he pointed out. “This had given rise to concerns that the judges too could become infected, which led them to make the request for face masks.”
Salaiket said the commission has also approved in principle a draft regulation regarding promotions and rehabilitation of judges’ health.
“This matter will be clarified in the next commission meeting,” he added.
