PM meets top doctors to discuss measures on tackling Covid-19

The government is having a dialogue with leading doctors in Thailand to discuss and find appropriate measures to fight the new coronavirus (Covid-19).

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha sat with five top doctors to hear their suggestions on the right way to deal with this virus crisis.

The doctors who attended the meeting were:

Clinical Professor Emeritus Dr Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, the former minister of Public Health and former president of Mahidol University;

Clinical Professor Dr Udom Kachintorn, the former deputy education minister and former dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital;

Prof Dr Yong Poovorawan, an expert virologist at Chulalongkorn University;

Prof Dr Amorn Leelarasamee President of the Medical Association;

Prof Dr Somsri Pausawasdi, president of Medical Council.

These doctors have encouraged the government to issue new measures and implement decisions such as cancelling the Songkran holidays and closing entertainment venues to stop Covid-19 from spreading.

The government has been criticised and asked to find a spokesman who was not a politician because citizens see them as opportunists amid the virus crisis.
