THAI woes under ‘urgent’ scrutiny

The multiple problems saddling Thai Airways, including the impact of the Covid-19 virus, are getting urgent attention at the ministries of Finance and Transport and solutions are expected within two months, the permanent secretary at Finance said on Wednesday (March 25).

“Both ministries are urgently finding solutions to bring the situation back to normal as soon as possible,” said Prasong Poontaneat. “We affirm that there is absolutely no intention to close Thai Airways.”
Within two months, he said, measures will be announced to solve the national carrier’s liquidity problem, “such as by increasing capital or borrowing money, but we have to study this thoroughly first”.
“And we have to evaluate how long the Covid-19 situation could last.”
