Phitsanulok, which presently has three confirmed Covid-19 cases, is a tourist destination that has attracted people from Bangkok and other provinces.
The checkpoints were expected to be set up from April 1 to 30 and people manning them are required to submit operational reports before noon each day.
The checkpoints will run round the clock by local officials and volunteered people and will check those who enter or exit the villages.
The province ordered the closure of high-risk places from March 26 to April 30 in a bid to keep Covid-19 from spreading.
