Vendors at MBK Group malls spared rent burden

Vendors at MBK Group malls spared rent burden

Shopping centres under MBK Group will temporarily exempt vendors from paying rent, the Group said in a statement on Thursday (April 2).

The move follows the government’s order to shut down department stores in Bangkok areas from March 22 to April 30 to prevent Covid-19 from spreading.
Vendors affected by the government decision will be exempted from rental fee retroactively from March 22 until April 30.
Shopping centres under MBK Group include MBK Center in Pathumwan district, The Nine Center Rama IX in Suanluang district, Paradise Park and Paradise Place in Prawet district.
The group said in the announcement that it is thankful for the support from both vendors and customers, and is confident that together they will all overcome this crisis.
The global Covid-19 situation has resulted in declining numbers of foreign tourists, the main customer group of MBK Center since early February.
On February 24 some 100 MBK Centre vendors had gathered in front of the shopping complex demanding that MBK Group reduce or exempt them from paying rent as they are suffering from decreasing sales due to the fall in the number of foreign tourists worried about the spreading coronavirus. The group had promised that it would come up with measures to help suffering vendors.
