Lazada, Shopee launch 4.4 discounted flash sale campaigns

Saturday (April 4), also billed as 4.4, is a day of competition between e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada for their promotion campaigns.

Shopee is running its "Shopee Crazy Flash Sale Day" with four flash sale periods at midnight, 9am, 12am, and 9pm.

The "Shopee Super Brand Day" offers discounted products from famous brands, in numerous categories such as home and living, electronics, or fashion.

Meanwhile, Lazada’s 4.4 promotion is selling numerous products with up to 90 per cent discount. Their categories are electronics, health, beauty, fashion, and super market.

Lazada is conducting three flash sales -- at midnight, 9am, and 3pm.

The Thai E-commerce Association had predicted earlier that Thai online shopping would increase by 100 per cent amid the Covid-19 situation. It found that searches for medical masks rose by 3,500 per cent in late February, compared to the same month in 2019.

In addition, the campaign "Lazada 8th Birthday Sale" organised at the end of March was found to draw one-eighth of people nationwide, and also increased products sales by 20 times, compared to the normal situation.

The products of domestic and foreign brands sold on LazMall had two times the sales of Lazada Birthday campaign in 2019.

Likewise, due to Shopee’s ’11.11 Big Sale’ and ‘Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale’, over 80 million items were sold within 24 hours.

Consumer behaviour, as well as logistics management, were factors boosting the e-commerce sales. However, another important factor for competition was the campaigns were running especially at a time when most people have been quarantined, or needed to work from their homes, the association added.
