Koh Lanta shut after 4 infections found

Koh Lanta in Krabi province is to be closed after four cases of Covid-19 were found on the island, which has now been labelled a hotspot of potential infection.

Krabi governor Lt Col Kitibadee Prawit said on Wednesday (April 8) that further measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 were being considered, as the four infected individuals had been in contact with various people. These contacts are being traced by public health officials.
Provincial authorities moved on April 8 to halt transportation between districts. People who need to move between districts must first get permission from district chiefs. Meanwhile, from Wednesday to Friday this week (April 8-10), officials will investigate residents to identify Covid-19 cases.
Authorities are monitoring the Covid-19 situation in 227 locations, coordinating their efforts via the internet and the Zoom video-conferencing tool.

Provincial authorities will also coordinate with related state authorities to provide visa extensions to foreign tourists stranded in the province. The measure is aimed to prevent them from travelling to get visa extensions and reduce their risk of infection.
On April 7, Krabi discovered two new infections, bringing the number of Covid-19 cases found in the southern province to 16. Six of them have recovered. Twenty more people were being tested, bringing the total investigated for Covid-19 infection to 315 people – 277 of whom tested negative.
