Driver of Bangkok bus no 140 succumbs to Covid-19
Surachai Iamwachirasakul, director of Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) said on Monday (April 13) that a female bus driver succumbed to Covid-19 on Sunday while being treated at the Somdet Phra Pin Klao Hospital.
“The driver worked during the March 24 to April 3 period, and only took two days of leave,” he said. “On April 3, she had high temperature and had himself admitted in hospital, where she later tested positive for Covid-19.”
Initial investigation revealed that the driver had been in contact with 18 BMTA staff members. Of the 18, nine were considered to be at high risk of infection and were ordered to quarantine themselves, while nine others were believe to be at no risk at all.
“The bus was pulled off the service since April 3 and was thoroughly disinfected,” Surachai said. “The BMTA will ensure that deceased employee’s family is compensated as per the terms and conditions of the Covid-19 insurance we have taken out for all employees.”
The Covid-19 victim drove bus no 140, which ran between Samae Dum in Bang Khun Thian district to Victory Monument in Ratchathewi district.
“Passengers who used the bus with serial number 5-90019 on April 1 between 7 to 10am and have displayed Covid-19 symptoms should contact the Department of Disease Control immediately,” he added.
