Yaowarat gets busy again
The streets in Bangkok’s Yaowarat area were busy as usual on Wednesday (April 15) when people decided to go there not just to shop for food and cooking essentials, but also to sell off their gold ornaments now that the price of the precious metal has risen by Bt550 per baht weight.
Many shops also reopened in response to a dropping rate of Covid-19 infections in the country. However, most people were still sporting face masks to protect themselves.
The street was also teeming with people on Tuesday, when hundreds showed up to queue outside gold shops.

Jitti Tangsitphakdi, president of the Gold Traders Association, said many gold shops were suffering cash flow problems, now that people are selling gold instead of buying, and also because international buyers have stopped importing the precious metal due to the ban on airlines and closure of overseas markets.
