First lot of Thai returnees released from Bangkok quarantine
The 75 Thai nationals, who were isolated in a state-run quarantine centre for 14 days after returning from overseas, were released on Thursday (April 16), deputy Bangkok governor Sakolthee Pattiyakul said. He added that they all tested negative for Covid-19.
“Each person – 38 men and 37 women – was tested for traces of Covid-19 before being released. As a take-home gift, they were each given two cloth face masks, two bottles of hand-sanitising gel, two bottles of alcohol spray gel and a handbook on protecting themselves from the virus,” he said.
All the returnees have been instructed to closely monitor their health at home and continue maintaining high sanitation standards, including separating their personal items, washing their hands regularly and eating properly cooked food.
“Though the number of confirmed cases in Thailand is gradually reducing, we cannot drop our guard just yet,” Sakolthee said. “People need to continue practising social distancing and avoid public gatherings, which can lead to cluster infections caused by asymptomatic cases.”
There are currently 27 returnees in the centre waiting to complete their 14-day quarantine.
“They will be leaving by the end of the week, after which the centre and personnel will prepare for new cases in Bangkok who need to be quarantined,” Sakolthee added.
